The Jets on Sunday sent a late-round draft pick to the Texans for DE Shaq Lawson. It’s a sensible move for a team that has lost DE Carl Lawson and DE Vinny Curry for the season. Shaq Lawson, though, has already washed out with 3 NFL teams: the Bills, who drafted him; the Dolphins, who signed him for big free-agent money; and the Texans, who traded (minimal value) for him. Odds are against Lawson being an edge-rushing savior for either the Jets or IDP rosters.

Lawson spent his 1st two seasons looking like a 1st-round bust but improved over the past 2. His final Bills campaign included 18 QB hits, tied for 25th in the NFL. Lawson also saw his playing time grow to starter-level over the final third of the 2019 season. He joins a Miami defense in dire need of edge help. The Dolphins' scheme shouldn't alter his position designation for IDP purposes.

The rookie said he felt "completely healthy," according to the Buffalo News, after working back from shoulder surgery to fix an issue that dated back to college. HC Rex Ryan didn't rule out playing Lawson this Sunday at Miami, though we wouldn't bet on too prominent a role within the next few games. OLB Lorenzo Alexander is playing the best ball of his career in what would have been Lawson's place, across from OLB Jerry Hughes.
