Cardinals HC Steve Wilks named QB Josh Rosen his new starter on Monday. The rookie entered late in the 4th quarter of Sunday's loss to the Bears, completing 4 of 7 passes for 36 yards and an INT. He can't be worse than Sam Bradford, though, who's averaged 5.0 yards per attempt with 2 TDs and 4 INTs through 3 weeks. That said, with a leaky offensive line, thin weaponry and questionable play-calling, Rosen isn't a fantasy option right now.
Dolphins QB Josh Rosen drew the start in Friday night's preseason game against the Bucs. He played the entire 1st half, completing 10 of 18 passes (55.6%) for 102 yards (5.7 YPA). Rosen's receivers dropped a couple of balls, but he was also spared an INT when Bucs CB Jamel Dean dropped an easy one. Rosen also took 3 sacks. It was a mostly uninspiring performance -- but QB Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't fare any better, completing just 3 of 9 passes for 20 yards on 3 possessions. HC Brian Flores announced after the game that Fitzpatrick will start the 3rd exhibition. That seemingly makes him the favorite to be under center come Week 1. But this continues to be a situation to avoid in fantasy drafts.
The Cardinals have traded QB Josh Rosen to the Dolphins in exchange for the 62nd pick of this year's draft and a 5th-rounder next year. Arizona had zero leverage here and did well to get this return. But it's also a nice move for the Fins, who get a young QB who's under control for 3 more years for cheap. Rosen's rookie year was ugly -- 55.2% completion rate, 5.8 yards per attempt, 11 TDs, 14 INTs -- but he was in a tough situation in stale offense behind a bad offensive line. He'll get at least 1 year in Miami to prove himself.
The Cardinals have hired Kliff Kingsbury as their new HC. He was named USC's OC last month but is bolting for a head gig in the pros. Kingsbury was a prolific passer at Texas Tech, racking up 11,937 yards and 91 TDs over his final 3 seasons. After flaming out in the NFL, he spent 5 seasons as an assistant coach at Houston and then Texas A&M. Kingsbury was named HC at his alma mater in 2013 and led the Red Raiders to top-28 finishes in total offense in all 6 seasons there. His squad never ranked worse than 8th in passing yards. Of course, it remains to be seen how Kingsbury's offense will translate to the NFL. It's an exciting but risky hire by Arizona.
Cardinals HC Steve Wilks is expected to be fired, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Wilks went 3-13 in his lone season in the desert. A defensive mind, Wilks' defense ranked 20th in yards allowed and 26th in points. The offense was even worse, finishing dead last in both yards and points. We'll see who Arizona tabs to lead QB Josh Rosen and Co. moving forward.
Cardinals QB Josh Rosen missed practice Wednesday because of a right thumb injury. HC Steve Wilks said Rosen banged the thumb on a helmet during Monday's practice and still had soreness Wednesday, according to multiple reports. It doesn't sound like a serious issue, and Rosen is reportedly considered day-to-day. He has continued to work behind QB Sam Bradford, so this should be a non-issue for fantasy owners.
