JJ McCarthy was announced as the Vikings' starting quarterback for their final preseason game, but Kevin Seifert of ESPN reports that he won't play tonight. McCarthy reportedly suffered a minor ankle injury last weekend and, after practicing lightly Monday and Tuesday, doesn't feel comfortable playing.

While the resounding feeling is that Kirk Cousins will open the season as the starting quarterback for the Raiders, the team still hasn't officially named a starter. The team’s head coach Kilint Kubiak avoided announcing their starting quarterback decision the morning following its final preseason game, saying “I still don’t think we need to name anybody.”

Emeka Egbuka is traveling with the team to Jacksonville for the team’s final preseason game but isn’t expected to play as he continues to rest his toe injury, per Greg Auman of Fox Sports. Auman says he would be surprised to see Egbuka practice next week as well, as the focus and expectation are to have him back for opening weekend the following week.

Raiders HC Klint Kubiak talked about using RB Ashton Jeanty as a workhorse back in May. Since then, Jeanty suffered an ankle injury and RB Mike Washington has impressed in preseason action. That might have Kubiak rethinking his backfield plans.

Titans WR Wan’Dale Robinson was evaluated for a concussion after yesterday's joint practice with the Bears. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the team doesn't believe he suffered one and will continue to monitor him, but Robinson appears set to avoid the concussion protocol and any additional missed time.

49ers RB Kaelon Black appears to be the frontrunner for the No. 2 job, according to Noah Furtado of the SF Chronicle. Black was a third-round pick in this year's draft and widely viewed as a reach after he wasn't invited to the NFL Combine. But he seems to have bounced back from an early-August thigh injury and made a strong camp impression, putting him ahead of second-year RB Jordan James, who missed part of camp with a fractured rib.

Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson should be "good to go" for Week 1, a source tells The Boston Globe's Christopher Price. Henderson hurt his right ankle on Monday but avoided a serious injury, according to Price. We haven't moved Henderson in the RB rankings due to the ankle, although he has fallen a few spots this month with consistent reporting that Rhamondre Stevenson will open the season as New England's clear lead back.

Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love is "trending in the right direction" for Week 1, according to 98.7 Phoenix's John Gambadoro. "Needs to keep progressing though," Gambadoro adds. "Still a ways to go but looking positive."

Packers RB Josh Jacobs was formally charged with two misdemeanors on Thursday, battery and criminal damage to property. Those charges are less serious than the potential charges tied to his initial arrest, which included felony strangulation and suffocation. The formal charges also carry no domestic-abuse modifier. Jacobs' first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 17.

Cedric Tillman is being released by the Browns after the team spent a third-round pick on him three years ago, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Tillman spent five years at the University of Tennessee before playing three seasons with the Browns.

Wan’Dale Robinson left practice to be evaluated for a concussion after taking a massive hit in the Titans' joint practice with the Bears, according to head coach Robert Saleh. Saleh called the hit on Robinson “cheap,” as it cleared the benches between the teams.

Josh Jacobs now faces two criminal charges, per Wisconsin court records: misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. The charges stem from an alleged domestic violence incident in May.

The Rams acquired WR Tutu Atwell from the Dolphins for RB Jarquez Hunter. Atwell returns to Los Angeles after playing there from 2021 to 2025. Hunter, a Round 4 pick, didn’t record a touch last year behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum.

Rapoport said Atlanta planned to start Tagovailoa while Penix worked back from his knee injury, but Tua's play has made that "impossible."

Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur admitted Wednesday that it's "too early to tell" whether RB James Conner will be available for Week 1. Conner continues to work back from last September's season-ending right ankle injury. He's "progressing well," LaFleur added.
