Colts bring back Vinatieri

The Colts have re-signed K Adam Vinatieri to a 2-year deal.  The 41-year-old showed no signs of decline last season, connecting on 35 of 40 FGs, including 4 from 50+ yards.  Vinatieri finished among the top 10 Ks in most fantasy formats and will be a fine option again in 2014.

Colts K Adam Vinatieri will undergo surgery on his injured knee and be placed on IR, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. This could be the end of the line for the 46-year-old, who's missed 8 FGs and 6 XPs this season. Chase McLaughlin will continue kicking for the Colts.

"You have to wonder whether perhaps we've seen a legendary kicker's final attempt in the NFL," Pelissero adds. Chase McLaughlin will kick for the Colts at least this weekend -- and maybe beyond.

Colts HC Frank Reich said Monday that Adam Vinatieri will kick for the team in Week 3. Vinatieri seemed to suggest that he was planning to retire after missing his 2nd and 3rd XPs of the season in Sunday's win over the Titans. We'll see if he can turn it around, but Vinatieri shouldn't be in Week 3 fantasy lineups.

Vinatieri missed 2 more XPs in the loss to the Titans after missing 2 FGs and 1 XP in the opener. The Colts would probably need to cut Vinatieri, so this would be a more ceremonious way for him to go out. Vinatieri turns 47 in December.
