Shark Bites

In a recent Q&A with the team website, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin intimated that the team expects to miss TE Tyler Eifert for some part of the regular season. In answering a question pertaining to the WR corps, Tobin said, "It’s a position group that’s going to have to step up – particularly with Eifert out early in the year." The article includes no further question or comment on Eifert's status, so we'll probably have to wait until at least training camp to get a more specific timeline for Eifert's return. For now, approach your fantasy football draft as though Eifert will not be ready for Week 1. If he's out, Tyler Kroft would figure to step in at TE. Gio Bernard and the WRs might find a few more targets available as well. This will be a key situation to watch through the summer.

Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert (shoulder) is active for today’s game against the Titans. He’s tallied 9 catches on 10 targets from QB Mike Glennon over the past 2 weeks but remains just a desperation fantasy play.

Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert (shoulder) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Titans after getting in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. He’s tallied 9 catches on 10 targets from QB Mike Glennon over the past 2 weeks. But he was still a desperation fantasy play and now gets dinged for this shoulder issue.

Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert suffered a neck injury in Sunday's game against the Texans and is questionable to return. We'll pass along an update when we get one.

The Jaguars have agreed to a 2-year deal with TE Tyler Eifert, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Eifert joins a roster whose most productive TE had been James O'Shaughnessy, with a top season of 24 receptions in 2018. Jacksonville drafted TE Josh Oliver in Round 3 last year, but he appeared in only 4 games because of injury. Eifert reunites with new Jaguars OC Jay Gruden, who coordinated the Bengals offense back when Cincinnati drafted Eifert in 2013. Eifert made it through 16 games for the 1st time in his career last season, posting a 43-436-3 receiving line in his age-29 season. If he hits August as Jacksonville's lead TE, Eifert should present at least spot-start potential.

Bengals TE Tyler Eifert said he's "doing pretty much everything" in offseason workouts. "There's a couple things here and there but for the most part it's all doing everything with the guys," he added. That's about as good as it gets for Eifert nowadays. He's played in just 14 games over the past 3 seasons and had his 2018 campaign ended by a broken ankle. Fantasy owners obviously can't rely on Eifert as a TE1 this coming year -- but he's still capable of producing when healthy. He caught 15 balls for 179 yards and a score in his 4 games last season and is still just 28. Eifert is a fine shot to take late in best-ball drafts, ideally as your 3rd TE.
