On the same day they announced their relocation to Los Angeles, the Chargers named Anthony Lynn their new HC. Lynn has 17 seasons of experience in the NFL, but all but 1 of those were spent as a special teams or RB coach. Lynn was promoted to OC in Buffalo prior to Week 3 of this past season and was then named interim HC for the season finale. The Bills averaged 25.8 points per game under Lynn's watch -- a mark that would have ranked 8th league-wide. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chargers are hoping to retain OC Ken Whisenhunt and hire Gus Bradley as DC.
The Chargers have activated safeties Derwin James and Adrian Phillips from IR, and ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports that both are expected to play today against the Broncos. The report also says HC Anthony Lynn will closely monitor the playing time for both players "if they are active." Lynn said: "It's just hard for guys to be out 10, 12 weeks, come back and pick up where they left off. We have to be careful putting guys back out too soon or back out there before they're ready." Both players carry significant IDP upside as full-timers, but it'll obviously be risky to use either guy in his 1st game off IR. Try to hold off for Week 13. Phillips' role could also affect the playing time for others at LB.
Chargers S Roderic Teamer (groin) is active for tonight's game against the Chiefs. He should return to the starting lineup and be in play for IDP use. Rookie LB Drue Tranquill is inactive. He turned up questionable after a Saturday calf injury in practice. That's just as well, because LB Denzel Perryman is no longer on the injury report. That should mean Perryman returning to his starting job against Kansas City. Thomas Davis remains the only solid fantasy bet at LB among Chargers.
Chargers LB Thomas Davis is active for today's game against the Broncos. He entered the day questionable with a groin injury but put in limited practices all week and should be OK for your IDP lineup. DE Melvin Ingram is inactive after entering the day questionable with his hamstring injury.
Chargers LB Jatavis Brown (ankle) is inactive for the 2nd straight game. LB Denzel Perryman (ankle) is once again active. Both entered the day questionable. Perryman barely played despite being active in Week 1, and Brown isn't likely to enter the starting lineup even when he's healthy. We'll see if the Chargers alter their LB playing time at all, but these situations looked irrelevant in Week 1.
Chargers LB Denzel Perryman is questionable for Sunday's opener against the Colts because of an ankle injury. He put in limited practices all week, which would suggest he's a decent bet to play. Perryman hasn't been an every-snap LB even when healthy though and makes for just a middling IDP option. LB Jatavis Brown is doubtful for the game after missing practice all week with his own ankle injury. It's not clear how much that matters, though. The team website lists Thomas Davis and Uchenna Nwosu as starters next to MLB Perryman. Various injuries have kept us from being able to confirm that via preseason action. This is a situation to avoid for now in most IDP leagues.
