The Buccaneers on Friday signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to back up Jameis Winston. There's obviously no fantasy relevance here unless Winston goes down. But if that happens, Fitzpatrick would inherit a nice corps of pass catchers and present some spot-start potential.
Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start this weekend's game against the Bills, HC Brian Flores announced Wednesday. Why? Couldn't tell ya. Fitzpatrick isn't an option in any fantasy league in an impossible spot in Buffalo vs. the league's 4th-ranked QB defense.
The Dolphins have named QB Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter for the regular-season opener, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. That puts Fitzpatrick in charge of an ugly Miami offense that opens vs. the Ravens and Patriots at home and then the Cowboys on the road. Don't expect to mine much fantasy football value here. We'll see how quick the hook might be if Fitzpatrick and the offense struggle.
Dolphins HC Brian Flores said Tuesday of his team's QB competition, "It's pretty clear to me that Ryan Fitzpatrick is leading the way," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That has seemed to be the word since workouts began. The Fitzpatrick-Josh Rosen battle only really matters for leagues deep enough to draft all QB starters. Fitzpatrick has proved his weekly upside with several franchises to date, though.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick worked with the starters on the 1st day of Dolphins training camp Thursday. It'd frankly make zero sense for the rebuilding Dolphins to play the 36-year-old Fitzpatrick over Josh Rosen. But we've seen NFL teams do dumber things than that. Fitzpatrick, of course, would be a more exciting fantasy option than Rosen. Fantasy owners should avoid this situation in drafts until the Fins name a Week 1 starter.
The Dolphins have agreed to a 2-year, $11 million contract with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to multiple reports. The deal sets Fitzpatrick up as the starter on a depth chart that just lost Ryan Tannehill to trade. We'll see what else Miami does this offseason at the position.
