Fox Sports' Jennifer Hale reports that Saints DT Nick Fairley has had some recent tests revealing heart trouble that "could jeopardize [the] future of his career." Fairley has been absent from OTAs for undisclosed medical reasons, and even teammates have reportedly had trouble reaching him. This would be a huge development, especially for a guy who signed a 4-year, $28 million extension just this offseason. The New Orleans D doesn't hold much fantasy appeal, but Fairley enjoyed a run of IDP success last year. We'll see where this story goes.

Recent Shark Bites

ESPN Chicago reports that Lions DT Nick Fairley will miss 4-5 weeks after suffering MCL and PCL sprains in Sunday's win over Atlanta. Fairley hasn't produced standalone value in IDP fantasy football leagues this year, but he has pressured the pocket well. His absence hurts 1 of the biggest surprise team Ds in fantasy this season. How much? We'll see after the Lions' Week 9 bye. They'll face a solid Miami team in Week 10.

Lions DT Nick Fairley has shed about 27 pounds this offseason to get down to 295, according to the Detroit Free Press.  Fairley also said he finds motivation in the team declining his 5th-year option, which will get him a 2nd contract earlier than he otherwise would have.  Fairley has disappointed through his 1st 3 seasons, showing flashes of the ability that made him a 1st-round pick but playing too inconsistently for the Lions to trust him.  If he's truly motivated to put it all together this year, he brings starting potential to any fantasy football league with DL slots.  Fairley doesn't figure to open the year as high in our 2014 IDP rankings as we projected him last year, though.

Lions DT Nick Fairley is active.  He had been questionable with a shoulder injury that kept him out of Week 2.  He's a solid DL starter in your IDP league against Alfred Morris and a less mobile RG3.  His presence also helps the Lions' team D.
Lions DT Nick Fairley is officially questionable for Sunday's meeting with Washington.  He's dealing with a shoulder issue that kept him out of the Week 2 contest at Arizona.  Beat writer Dave Birkett said Friday that he guesses Fairley will play.  If he's active Sunday, Fairley is certainly worth using in DT-specific IDP spots and as a DL in deeper leagues.

Lions DT Nick Fairley is inactive for today's visit to Arizona because of a shoulder injury.  His absence hurts the Detroit team D as well, but the Lions retain some fantasy upside thanks to the Cardinals' lackluster run game and Carson Palmer's INT potential.
