The Panthers made a couple of QB moves on Monday, signing P.J. Walker and trading Kyle Allen to Washington. Walker was arguably the MVP of the 5-week XFL season, completing 65% of his passes for 1,338 yards, 15 TDs and 4 INTs. He added 99 yards and a score on the ground. Walker will duke it out with Will Grier to back up Teddy Bridgewater in Carolina. Allen, meanwhile, will sit behind Dwayne Haskins after a mostly ugly 2019 that saw him finish with a 62.0% completion rate, 6.8 yards-per-attempt average and 17 TDs vs. 16 INTs.
Panthers HC Matt Rhule confirmed that QB P.J. Walker will start this weekend's game vs. the Cardinals, despite the addition of QB Cam Newton. Newton spent his first 9 NFL seasons in Carolina -- but none of those came with this current coaching staff. So he has a brand new offense to learn. We'll see if Newton is ready to take over come Week 11. The Panthers reportedly gave him a 1-year contract worth up to $10 million with $4.5 million guaranteed, so they're clearly expecting him to play sooner than later.
The Panthers will start QB P.J. Walker today against the Lions. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Carolina decided to deactivate Teddy Bridgewater after initially saying he'd be on the active roster for the game. Walker is an intriguing dual-threat athlete but shouldn't be used outside DFS and deep multi-QB leagues.
