X-rays this week revealed that Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right (throwing) thumb, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Minshew has reportedly been experiencing discomfort in that thumb since the Texans game back in Week 5. That at least partially explains his uneven play over the last 3 games. Minshew has a Week 8 bye, but it's unclear if he'll be able to play come Week 9. If not, Jacksonville would turn to either veteran Mike Glennon or 6th-round rookie Jake Luton.
The Jaguars have traded QB Gardner Minshew to the Eagles for a conditional 2022 sixth-round draft pick. Philly also released QB Nick Mullens, positioning Minshew as at least the 3rd QB on the depth chart. He'll need only to work past Joe Flacco to become Jalen Hurts' backup. That's a nice spot for the 25-year-old Minshew, whose rookie contract runs through 2022. Jacksonville, meanwhile, has C.J. Beathard and Jake Luton around as backups to Trevor Lawrence.
Jaguars HC Doug Marrone announced Monday at his press conference that he'll start QB Gardner Minshew against the Ravens in Week 15. Minshew relieved Mike Glennon in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's loss to the Titans but posted only pedestrian numbers. He completed 18 of 31 passes (58%) for 178 yards (5.7 per attempt), 1 TD and 0 INTs. Baltimore actually rates as only a slightly tougher-than-average scoring matchup for fantasy QBs on the season -- both by raw fantasy points allowed and our Strength-of-Schedule formula -- but we're certainly not chasing Minshew for Week 15 fantasy lineups. The Ravens will bring a tougher defense than the Titans did last week, especially in the 2nd half of a blowout Tennessee win.
Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew (thumb) is out for Sunday’s game against the Texans. 6th-round rookie QB Jake Luton is expected to get the start but is well off the fantasy radar.
Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew (thumb) is not expected to play against the Texans next Sunday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Veteran Mike Glennon and rookie Jake Luton will reportedly compete for the Week 9 starting job in practice. Neither guy will be a bankable fantasy play, despite the plus matchup. It's unclear if Jacksonville will go back to Minshew once he's healthy.
Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew could be benched as early as today's game against the Chargers if he continues to struggle, NFL Network reports. Minshew has completed 67.5% of his passes and tossed 11 TDs through 6 games. But he's also been picked off 5 times in his last 5 -- and the Jags have lost all 5 of those games. We'll see if Minshew can save his job today, but he's obviously a risky fantasy play. QB Mike Glennon is Jacksonville's backup.
