The Jaguars have fired HC Doug Marrone, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Marrone went 10-6 in his 1st full season at the helm but totaled just 12 wins over the past 3 years. Jacksonville has already been linked to former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer. Whoever gets the gig figures to be working with Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.
The Jaguars have hired Urban Meyer as HC. It'll be his first foray into the NFL after spending over 30 years in the college ranks. Meyer most recently served as Ohio State's HC from 2012-2018, leading the Buckeyes to an 83-9 record and 1 national championship. He also won 2 titles among 6 seasons as Florida's HC and spent 2 years before that as HC at Utah. Meyer was reportedly infatuated with the idea of coaching incoming rookie QB Trevor Lawrence. (Who wouldn't be?) ESPN's Jeremy Fowler hears that Meyer is eyeing Scott Linehan as his OC, although that move isn't official yet.
Jaguars CB C.J. Henderson (shoulder) and LB Myles Jack (ankle) are inactive for today's game against the Texans. Rookie CB Chris Claybrooks will start in Henderson's place. Dakota Allen will start in place of Jack. Both carry IDP upside, though there's also the uncertainty of less-proven players.
Jaguars DE Josh Allen (knee), LB Myles Jack (ankle) and CB C.J. Henderson (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans. Jack is the only one worth waiting on for IDP lineups. Allen missed practice all week. The other 2 put in limited practices Thursday and Friday. We'll check the status of all 3 when the inactives come out Sunday morning.
ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported Wednesday that the Jaguars are considering a switch at MLB against the Raiders. He says Jacksonville might start Joe Giles-Harris instead of Donald Payne in the middle. Payne racked up 13 and 15 tackles in place of Myles Jack the past 2 weeks and would be a strong IDP starter in the same role. The LB changes should also include Austin Calitro starting on the weak side, where Quincy Williams landed on IR this week. If we hit the weekend not sure about roles and playing time between Payne and Giles-Harris, then Calitro becomes the upside play among Jaguars LBs. We'll keep an eye out for updates on the situation as we head into the weekend. Consider adding Calitro now in deeper IDP leagues, though -- especially if you were planning to start Payne.
The Jaguars have ruled LBs Najee Goode (toe) and Quincy Williams (hamstring) out for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Terry's combination of size and speed gives him intriguing upside as a later-round target in dynasty rookie drafts.
