Shark Bites

Broncos HC Vic Fangio said earlier this month that he expects TE Albert Okwuegbunam to be limited at the start of training camp. "Probably not right off the bat full speed," he said, referring to Okwuegbunam and CB Essang Bassey, both coming off ACL tears. "They'll have to be managed, but the both are doing very well." We'll see about Okwuegbunam's participation as camp gets going, but being active at any level seems like a positive coming off a November ACL tear. Of course, any limitations for him can only be good news for Noah Fant's target opportunity.

Recent Shark Bites

The Broncos have placed TE Albert Okwuegbunam on IR with a hamstring injury. He was already ruled out of Sundays game at Pittsburgh. Now he’ll miss at least 2 more beyond that. Okwuegbunam’s absence can only help the target outlook for lead Denver TE Noah Fant

The Broncos have ruled TE Albert Okwuegbunam out for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. He injured a hamstring in practice Wednesday and then sat out the past 2 days. HC Vic Fangio says the team will "make a decision by Saturday if it's worth putting him on" IR, according to the Denver Post. We'll see about that. Okwuegbunam isn't much of a standalone fantasy option. His absence can only help the target outlook for TE Noah Fant, who already trails Courtland Sutton's team lead by just 1 for the year. With Sutton also questionable for Sunday, Fant carries big target upside into Week 5.

The Denver Post reports that Broncos TE Albert Okwuegbunam tore his right ACL in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. That will end the rookie's season after 15 targets over his past 4 games. Noah Fant had another ankle scare against Atlanta, which had already cost him Week 6. But Fant returned to finish out the Atlanta game. Nick Vannett will now work as the #2 behind Fant. Jake Butt landed on IR earlier this month with a hamstring injury.

The Broncos selected Missouri TE Albert Okwuegbunam in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Albert O brings a freaky combination of size and speed. The 6’5, 258-pounder blazed a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at the Combine. His 127.0 Speed Score is 3rd best among all TEs since 2000 — notably ahead of guys like Evan Engram, O.J. Howard and Noah Fant. Okwuegbunam disappointed with a 23-306-6 line without QB Drew Lock last year. But he tallied 415 yards and a 11 scores as a true freshman in 2017 and then caught 43 balls for 466 yards and 6 scores in 2018. Okwuegbunam missed 5 games over the last 2 seasons with shoulder injuries and looks a bit straight-linish on tape. But that size-speed combo makes him an intriguing fantasy prospect. He reunites with Lock in Denver and, alongside Noah Fant, gives the Broncos the fastest TE duo in the league.
