Packers HC Mike McCarthy gave K Mason Crosby a vote of confidence after Sunday's game despite another missed FG.  "He's a very talented kicker," McCarthy said. "He's our kicker and he'll be our kicker. And he'll kick it through the uprights."  Crosby has missed a FG in 4 straight games and has 9 misses on the season.  Despite playing on one of the league's most explosive offenses, Crosby can't be trusted for fantasy purposes.

Packers ST coach Shawn Mennenga said Mason Crosby will battle Sam Ficken for the kicking job, adding “we’ll see who the best man will be.” A calf injury has kept Crosby -- Green Bay's kicker since 2007 -- out of training camp. Ficken, though, is just 3 for 6 on FG attempts through 2 seasons. A healthy Crosby should earn a roster spot, but his current status makes him someone to avoid in early drafts.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy suggested Monday that he'll stick with K Mason Crosby, despite his 4 missed FGs and missed XP in yesterday's 8-point loss to the Lions. "He's a proven highly successful kicker, and I believe in him but he's got to make those kicks," McCarthy said. Crosby has been a reliable K for most of his 12-year career, but fantasy owners should seek out another option for now.

The Packers on Tuesday announced a new 4-year deal for K Mason Crosby, worth a reported $16 million. Crosby has produced 4 straight seasons of FG conversion rates shy of 80% after hitting 85% in 3 of his 1st 5 years. But Green Bay obviously remains satisfied, and the offense makes it a good fantasy situation.

Packers K Mason Crosby is facing legitimate competition for the starting job from K Giorgio Tavecchio.  Crosby connected on just 21 of 33 FG attempts last year -- a league-worst 63.6% conversion rate.  Tavecchio went undrafted out of Cal back in 2011.  He went 20 of 23 in his final college season but has yet to attempt an NFL kick.  Tavecchio has made 10 of 12 tries in camp so far, while Crosby has gone 9 of 11.  We're expecting Crosby to hang on to the starting job.  But if you're drafting now, you're better off going with a K with more security.

Packers K Mason Crosby sprained his ankle early in camp and missed some practice time.  But he looked healthy in the team's preseason opener, nailing a 31-yard FG and both of his XPs.  He's safe to draft as a high-quality fantasy starter.
