contract update

SI.com's Peter King reports that Chargers GM A.J. Smith will not talk to WR Vincent Jackson about a new contract the rest of the preseason.  Smith has been playing hardball since V-Jax started this holdout, so this news doesn't come as a surprise.  We'd still bet against Jackson sitting out the first 10 weeks of the season, but we can't see the end of this tunnel right now...

Bucs WR Vincent Jackson has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and has been placed on IR. The injury occurred 2 weeks ago, but V-Jax practiced on Monday before realizing that something wasn't right. This might be the end of the line for the 33-year-old, who was ineffective through the first 5 games, averaging just 11.5 yards per catch. Adam Humphries is next up on Tampa's depth chart, although he's more of a slot guy. WR Louis Murphy, who was activated from the PUP list on Monday, is also an option. Regardless, WR Mike Evans will continue to dominate targets.

Update: ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Jackson has not yet been diagnosed with a torn ACL. He's still heading to IR, but there's a chance he's able to return before the end of the season. He remains droppable in all fantasy leagues.

Bucs WR Vincent Jackson suffered a knee injury against the Panthers back in Week 5. Tampa Bay was off last week, but it sounds like V-Jax is in danger of missing Sunday's game vs. the 49ers. That'd likely mean a bigger role for WR Adam Humphries, although WR Mike Evans will continue to dominate targets.

Bucs insider Roy Cummings believes WR Vincent Jackson "should have little trouble regaining his 1,000-yard receiving form this year." V-Jax missed 6 games with a pair of injuries last season and finished with a 33-543-3 line. That put him on a 16-game pace of 869 yards. Jackson topped 1,000 yards in each of his first 3 seasons in Tampa Bay. He's 33 now, but Cummings says Jackson "has shown no real signs of aging." We have him projected to fall short of 1,000 yards, but V-Jax still looks like a nice value at his WR51 ADP.

Bucs WR Vincent Jackson (knee) has been placed on IR and won't play in Sunday's finale against the Panthers.  He ended up missing 6 games this season with knee issues.  In the other 10, Jackson averaged just 3.3 catches and 54.3 yards and .3 TDs per game.  That's a 16-game pace of 53-869-5.  Turning 33 in a couple of weeks, V-Jax's days as a fantasy football starter might be over.

Bucs WR Vincent Jackson (knee) remained out of practice on Wednesday. The veteran might be done for the year after spraining his MCL against New Orleans in Week 14. If that’s the case, his 11^th NFL season will end with a disappointing 33 grabs, 543 yards and 3 TDs.
