Cowboys move up for Lawrence

The Cowboys traded up 13 spots in the 2nd round of the NFL draft to pick Boise State DE Demarcus Lawrence.  The former Bronco racked up 20 sacks and 34 total tackles for loss over the past 2 college seasons.  He could challenge for an immediate starting job with the Cowboys, who released left DE DeMarcus Ware this spring.  DE Anthony Spencer re-signed as a free agent, re-joining a group that includes George Selvie and journeyman Jeremy Mincey in the competition for snaps.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Cowboys EDGE Demarcus Lawrence and LB/EDGE Micah Parsons are expected to play today against the Giants. Further, he adds that Lawrence has been playing through a stress fracture in 1 of his feet. Lawrence said earlier in the week that he's dealing with issues in both feet and that his right knee "hurts worse than the feet," according to SI.com. Lawrence played a season-low 40% of the snaps last time out, but that followed a season-high 72%. He also has sacks in 3 straight contests. So the physical issues add risk, but there's still plenty of value to putting him into IDP fantasy football lineups.

Cowboys EDGE Demarcus Lawrence is expected to play today against the Vikings, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Lawrence is officially questionable and missed the 1st 2 days of practice this week. He returned for a full Friday workout, though. We haven't moved Lawrence down the Week 11 IDP rankings.

Cowboys EDGE Demarcus Lawrence (foot) and CB Anthony Brown (concussion) are questionable for Sunday's game at Minnesota. HC Mike McCarthy said Friday that he expects Lawrence to play. Brown still needs to clear the league protocol. We'll check their statuses Sunday.

The Cowboys are re-signing DE Demarcus Lawrence to a 3-year, $40 million deal with $30 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. Many expected Lawrence to move on, given Dallas' salary-cap issues. But the 8-year veteran heads into his age-30 campaign looking like he might finish his career a Cowboy. Lawrence lost 10 games to a foot fracture in 2021 and logged just 3 in the other 7. We'd bet on a 2022 rebound, but it's worth noting that Lawrence also tallied just 10 QB hits in 2020 -- his fewest in a season since becoming a starter. So he's probably not a great bet for double-digit sacks.
