Jets QB Geno Smith is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's game against the Ravens, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He'll undergo additional testing to confirm the injury that would end his season. Incredibly jinxed, Smith is due to hit the free-agent market this offseason. The Jets, meanwhile, will go back to Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. He gets a plus Week 8 matchup against Cleveland's 30th-ranked QB defense, putting him on the spot-start radar for bold fantasy owners.
QB Geno Smith has agreed to terms with the Chargers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Smith infamously got 1 start in place of Eli Manning in his lone season with the Giants, when then-HC Ben McAdoo controversially benched the veteran. Smith did little, just as he did across 4 years with the Jets. He’ll now join his 3rd NFL team, a move that likely won’t alter any QB plans the Chargers might have for the upcoming NFL Draft
The Giants have signed QB Geno Smith, per the New York Post's Brian Costello. Not surprisingly, Smith didn't garner much (any?) interest as a starter. So he'll settle for a backup gig behind 36-year-old Eli Manning. If Smith makes a good impression with his new club, perhaps he'll be considered as Manning's eventual successor. That seems like a long shot, though.
Jets QB Geno Smith injured his right knee in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Ravens. He headed back to the locker room with trainers. We'll update his status when we learn more.
Update: Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the game.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Jets will name QB Geno Smith their Week 7 starter. HC Todd Bowles said QB Ryan Fitzpatrick would get the nod immediately after Monday night's loss to the Cardinals. But he evidently changed his mind after reviewing the tape. Smith wasn't any better in relief on Fitzpatrick in that one, completing 4 of 6 passes for 31 yards and an INT. He can't be trusted in fantasy lineups against the Ravens this weekend. But Smith does offer some rushing upside and is worth grabbing in 2-QB leagues.
Jets QB Geno Smith is out 6-10 weeks after being sucker-punched by teammate IK Enemkpali. That dude has already been released, while Smith is now out for at least the first 2 games of the regular season. The longer end of that timetable would cost him 5 games. That moves QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to the top of the depth chart. Fitz has long been a subpar real-life QB but has had some fantasy success, especially with current Jets OC Chan Gailey. In 3 seasons with Gailey in Buffalo, Fitzpatrick ranked 10th, 16th and 19th, respectively, in fantasy points. He could be a sneaky spot-start option in deeper fantasy leagues and DFS games. The Jets get positive early-season matchups against the Colts (Week 2), Eagles (3) and Redskins (6).
