Browns HC Hue Jackson announced that QB DeShone Kizer will start the 3rd preseason game against the Bucs on Saturday night. He's moved from 3rd in the pecking order in the 1st exhibition, to 2nd in game #2 and now 1st. Jackson stopped short of naming Kizer his regular-season starter, saying only he's "positioning himself well to earn the starting job." But if the rookie plays this weekend like he has in his first 2 outings, he'll be under center on September 10 against the Steelers.
The Browns have unloaded QB DeShone Kizer on the heels of dealing for Tyrod Taylor. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Cleveland has agreed to trade Kizer to the Packers for CB Damarious Randall. There might not be a better spot in the league for Kizer to spend a couple of years developing and for Green Bay to see whether he can turn into NFL starting material. Randall, meanwhile, adds talent to a Browns secondary that already seemed headed in the right direction over the past year or 2. For fantasy purposes ... there's really not much value/intrigue here.
The Browns have hired Todd Haley as their new OC. He's expected to take play-calling duties from HC Hue Jackson. Haley butted heads with QB Ben Roethlisberger but helped the Steelers to top-10 finishes in both total yards and points in each of the past 4 seasons. He wasn't as successful in previous stops in Kansas City and Arizona, posting 3 top-12 finishes in total offense but 3 others in the bottom 8. He obviously won't be working with nearly as much talent in Cleveland as he had in Pittsburgh.
Browns HC Hue Jackson said he'll stick with QB DeShone Kizer for the rest of the season. "Where we are right now, I need to continue to see him" Jackson said after Sunday's loss to the Jags. "Let's let him play. Let's let him play this thing out. As long as he's healthy, let's keep putting him out there. I want to walk away from this season knowing exactly what DeShone Kizer is top to bottom." It makes plenty of sense for the winless Browns to get some more tape on Kizer. The rookie was predictably swallowed up by the Jaguars yesterday but turned in 1 of his better performances of the season the previous week. He's still no more than a low-end QB2 for fantasy the rest of the way.
Browns QB DeShone Kizer suffered a rib injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game in Detroit. He's officially questionable to return. We'll update the rookie's status when we learn more.
Update: Kizer returned in the 4th quarter.
Browns HC Hue Jackson named QB DeShone Kizer his starter for Sunday's game against the Vikings. The rookie has been benched in both of his last 2 starts and is even-money to make it through this weekend's game in London. Kizer isn't an option in any fantasy format.
