The Broncos have placed WR Emmanuel Sanders on IR after an MRI confirmed a torn left Achilles. It's a massive loss for a team with playoff aspirations. Sanders leads Denver in all major receiving categories, accounting for 23.7% of the team's targets, 27.5% of the catches, 29.0% of the receiving yards and 26.7% of the receiving TDs. Sanders' target share rose to 28.6% without Demaryius Thomas over the past 4 games. So there's a lot of meat on the bone for WRs Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick to pick. Sutton is easily the best target bet going forward and looks like a weekly WR3 with upside the rest of the way. Hamilton is worth adding in deeper leagues -- although it's getting late in the season to be rolling the dice on a guy like him.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that WR Emmanuel Sanders is "day-to-day" with a rib cartilage injury. Shanny labeled him a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Cardinals (despite the game being 5 days away). We'll keep an eye on Sanders' status throughout the week, but it at least sounds like he has a shot to play vs. Arizona.
Niners WR Emmanuel Sanders left in the 1st half on Monday night's game against the Seahawks with a rib injury and is questionable to return.
Update: Sanders did not return. We'll look for updates on his status.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said that WR Emmanuel Sanders will play "a lot" against the Panthers this weekend, just a few days after arriving from Denver via trade. It's worth noting that Broncos OC Rich Scangarello worked under Shanny in San Francisco in 2017 and 2018, so Sanders should be able to settle into his new offense relatively quickly. Still, the 'Niners are deploying the league's run-heaviest offense, and we're not expecting that to change much going forward. Sanders also has a tough matchup on Sunday vs. Carolina's tough pass defense, so we'd try not to use him in Week 8 fantasy lineups.
The 49ers on Tuesday acquired WR Emmanuel Sanders from the Broncos. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that San Francisco sent 3rd- and 4th-round picks in 2020 to Denver for Sanders and a 5th-round pick. Sanders should immediately become the top wideout for a Niners team that has stunk at that position all year. The Broncos, meanwhile, figure to elevate DaeSean Hamilton to the #2 WR role. He currently ranks just 6th on the team in targets, behind Courtland Sutton, Sanders, the 2 RBs and TE Noah Fant. Hamilton has a shot at WR4 value in fantasy but not much upside beyond that in Denver's current offense. Sanders' outlook shouldn't change all that much. He goes from a run-leaning offense where he ranked 2nd in targets to the league's most run-heavy offense with TE George Kittle as its top target. The trade certainly can't hurt the shaky fantasy floor of 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (knee) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. He's on track to play against the Chiefs on Thursday night after leaving last week's game early. Sanders will be a WR3 with upside in what should be a high-scoring game.
