The Seahawks are keeping LB Mychal Kendricks on a 1-year, $4 million deal, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Kendricks could take over the starting weak-side job, with K.J. Wright an unrestricted free agent. If he does, Kendricks would likely land in LB3 territory in our 2019 IDP rankings. He'd also carry upside into LB2 range.
The league has suspended Seahawks LB Mychal Kendricks indefinitely because of the insider-trading case against him. We'll see how long that winds up lasting, but it means you can go ahead and drop him in IDP leagues. Unfortunately, LB K.J. Wright's knee still doesn't seem likely to be ready for Week 5. With just 1 more game between that and the Week 7 bye, we're likely looking at Week 8 for the earliest Wright availability.
Seahawks LB Mychal Kendricks (ankle) is active for today's game against the Cowboys. He entered the day questionable but should be ready for his expected role. We'll see exactly what that means after he played 82% of the snaps last week in his 1st game with the team. Kendricks is a low-level IDP option at best.
LB Mychal Kendricks vehemently denied early reports of him joining the Browns, but then he signed with them Sunday after all. Yahoo! and ESPN each reported a 1-year deal worth up to $3.5 million. The Yahoo! report said Kendricks would start immediately, but we're not ready to buy that. OLBs Christian Kirksey and Jamie Collins each own large salaries and will clearly remain in the lineup. MLB Joe Schobert went to the Pro Bowl in his 1st starting turn and ranked a respectable 32nd (among 87 qualifiers) in Pro Football Focus' off-ball LB grading. The deal does suggest that Kendricks is likely to take on a significant role. We'll see exactly how things shake out. For now, we're knocking Schobert down the LB rankings.
The Eagles on Tuesday released OLB Mychal Kendricks, after several years of trade/cut rumors spanning 2 coaching staffs. The 27-year-old (until late September) figures to quickly get a shot somewhere else. Kendricks is a top-shelf athlete among LBs and has produced across categories when playing full-time snaps. His departure opens the lead weak-side role, though we'll see if that means more snaps for his replacement. One potential replacement, veteran Paul Worrilow, suffered an ACL tear in Tuesday's on-field workout and will miss the season.
Eagles OLB Mychal Kendricks played just 19 defensive snaps in Sunday's opener against the Browns, and Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that his role doesn't appear likely to grow any time soon. Philly played its nickel package on defense more than its "base" defense, which keeps MLB Jordan Hicks and OLB Nigel Bradham on the field as the 2 LBs (with Kendricks leaving for an extra DB). "As good an athlete as Mychal is, it's just unfortunate that we have to take one guy off," coach Doug Pederson said. "Right now . . . he's the odd man out and he ends up coming off the field." No Eagles coach has spoken publicly of any dissatisfaction with Kendricks' play or attitude, but he was on the field for the 4th quarter of the 3rd preseason game and started the 4th -- territory, in both cases, that NFL starters usually avoid. Kendricks lost 2 weeks to a hamstring injury in August, which might have helped slot him behind Bradham for nickel duties. But Bradham played under DC Jim Schwartz in Buffalo 2 years ago and might need to screw up significantly or get hurt to give Kendricks an opportunity. You can drop Kendricks for a more trustworthy LB in most redraft IDP leagues.
