Chargers RB Melvin Gordon's holdout is now expected to last into the regular season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Contract talks have not progressed as he hoped," Rapoport says. "The relationship between Gordon and the Chargers is fine. There's a mutual respect. There's just a disagreement over the value of Gordon." We're still 2-and-a-half week away from the start of the season, so we're not convinced that Gordon is a lock to miss games at this point. But with seemingly little progress being made on a new contract, the odds of him sitting out games is certainly growing. Gordon's ADP has sunk into the 4th round in recent fantasy drafts.

Recent Shark Bites

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Chargers RB Melvin Gordon's "current plan is to report in the window that spans from Week 6 through Week 8." Gordon needs to report by Week 10 to make this season count toward his eligibility for free agency in the spring. That means at least starter duty for RB Austin Ekeler for at least a third of the season, and potentially half the year or more. We'll start seeing today how big a share RB Justin Jackson will get. He certainly belongs on rosters in nearly all fantasy football leagues as well.

Chargers GM Tom Telesco told reporters during a Sunday conference call that the team has suspended contract-extension talks with RB Melvin Gordon until after the season. That doesn't seem to help the chances of Gordon reporting to the team anytime soon. Of course, moving on to another team via trade would change that situation. Drafters should continue pushing Gordon down the board this week until/unless something changes. Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson, meanwhile, have only gained draft value this week.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Chargers have given permission to RB Melvin Gordon's representatives to seek a trade. That obviously doesn't bode well for Gordon and the team working something out to get him back for the season. We'll see whether it can get him onto someone else's field soon. If you're drafting this weekend, Gordon carries plenty of risk anywhere inside the 1st 5 rounds. This news certainly doesn't hurt the value of Austin Ekeler or Justin Jackson, though.

"Expect [Melvin] Gordon to end his holdout in time to be on the Week 1 roster." That's from ESPN's Eric Williams' latest 53-man roster projection for the Chargers. It qualifies as the most optimistic report on Gordon we've heard in a while. He obviously remains a high-risk fantasy pick. But with an ADP now in the 4th round, Gordon could be a league-winner if he reports before the season opener.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Chargers RB Melvin Gordon's holdout "is now expected to be prolonged" and "threatens" to run into the regular season. The 2 sides exchanged offers this week, but "talks are not in a good spot," per Schefter. It always seemed like Gordon's holdout would last a while. We'd still bet on him reporting before Week 1, but there's certainly a chance he misses games. And even if he shows up before the start of the season, the missed time in August would make him an increased injury risk early in the season. We just dropped Gordon down the RB rankings again.
