Preseason Week 2 Notes

By Jared Smola 10:08am EDT 8/20/19

Welcome to Week 2 of the preseason, where we should learn more than we did in Week 1. I'll be keeping a running tab of observations and fantasy takeaways, so check back often.

* Raiders RB Josh Jacobs was on the field for all 6 snaps of QB Derek Carr's lone drive against the Cardinals.

* Ravens RB Mark Ingram started against the Packers, playing 6 of 9 snaps on his lone series. RB Kenneth Dixon played the other 3.

* Ravens QB Lamar Jackson's target distribution vs. the Packers:

Nick Boyle - 3

Hayden Hurst - 2

Willie Snead - 2

Miles Boykin - 1

Chris Moore - 1

Kenneth Dixon - 1

(WR Marquise Brown did not play.)

* Per NFL.com's Graham Barfield, Ravens TE Mark Andrews has been on the field for just 11 of QB Lamar Jackson's 36 snaps (30.6%) through 2 preseason games.

* Falcons RB Devonta Freeman played 1 series with QB Matt Ryan and was in on 6 of 8 snaps. RB Ito Smith played the other 2.

* Falcons QB Matt Ryan was sacked 3 times on 4 series against the Jets.

* Bengals RB Joe Mixon's stiff arm is ready for the start of the season.

* Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's target distribution against the Raiders:

Christian Kirk - 3

Larry Fitzgerald - 2

KeeSean Johnson - 1

David Johnson - 1

* Jets QB Sam Darnold through 2 preseason games: 9 of 12 (75%) for 114 yards (9.5 YPA), 1 TD and 0 INTs.

* Bills WR Cole Beasley was targeted on 5 of QB Josh Allen's 11 pass attempts on Friday night, bringing him to a 28.6% target share through 2 preseason games. (WR John Brown did not play this week.)

* Bucs RBs Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones each carried twice on QB Jameis Winston's lone drive vs. the Dolphins. Through 2 preseason games, Barber has tallied 5 carries and 1 target with the starters vs. Jones' 4 carries and 1 target.

* Giants QB Daniel Jones had another strong showing, completing 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards and 1 TD (although he also lost 2 fumbles). The rookie has now completed 84% of his passes and averaged 12 yards per attempt through 2 preseason games.

* On Bills QB Josh Allen's 2 possessions vs. the Panthers:

LeSean McCoy - 4 carries, 3 targets

Devin Singletary - 0 carries, 1 target

* Bucs TE O.J. Howard has been on the field for 21 of QB Jameis Winston's 22 snaps through 2 preseason games.

* Tony Pollard was the only Cowboys RB to touch the ball on QB Dak Prescott's lone drive against the Rams. The rookie carried 5 times for 42 yards and a score and caught 1 ball for 9 yards. Here's video of every touch. Owner Jerry Jones talked Pollard up after the game. He's the clear handcuff to Ezekiel Elliott.

* Colts RB snaps with starting QB Jacoby Brissett vs. the Browns:

Marlon Mack - 16

Nyheim Hines - 2

Mack was on the field for all 3 third downs and 1 fourth down.

* Titans QB Marcus Mariota's target distribution vs. the Patriots:

Corey Davis - 3

Delanie Walker - 2

Jeremy McNichols - 2

Darius Jennings - 1

Dion Lewis - 1

* Chiefs RB Damien Williams was targeted once and didn't record a touch in Saturday's game against the Steelers. But he was on the field for all 5 snaps on the 1st series before taking the rest of the night off.

* Steelers WR James Washington was the offense's best player for the 2nd week in a row. He racked up 4 catches for 78 yards against the Chiefs on Saturday night, including this leaping grab. WR Donte Moncrief got the start over Washington but fumbled on his only catch.

* Lions RB Kerryon Johnson was pulled on 3rd down on all 3 series he played against the Texans -- twice for C.J. Anderson and once for Ty Johnson.

* Seahawks RB snaps with Russell Wilson vs. the Vikings

Chris Carson - 13

Rashaad Penny 4

* Per NFL.com's Graham Barfield, Saints RB Alvin Kamara has played 21 of 34 1st-team snaps through 2 preseason games -- a 61.7% snap rate. He played 65.9% of the snaps last year.

* 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's 2019 preseason debut could have gone better. He finished 1 of 6 for 0 yards and 1 INT on 3 series. Garoppolo should have been picked a 2nd time. And his only completion was a short screen pass to RB Matt Breida.

* 49ers RB snaps with Jimmy Garoppolo against the Broncos:

Tevin Coleman - 5

Matt Breida - 4

* Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders looked like his old self on Monday night -- his 1st action since last December's torn Achilles. He caught a pass on Denver's 1st offensive snap and had this 19-yard run on an end-around. Sanders also had a 45-yard catch negated by a holding penalty.

* Broncos QB Joe Flacco's target distribution:

Noah Fant - 3

Emmanuel Sanders - 2

DaeSean Hamilton - 2

Courtland Sutton - 2

Royce Freeman - 1

* Broncos RB snaps with Joe Flacco:

Phillip Lindsay - 8

Royce Freeman - 7

Devontae Booker - 4
