Shark Bites

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin missed Wednesday's practice with a groin injury.  It's the 1st we've heard of the ailment, but HC Pete Carroll said he's "unsure" of Baldwin's Week 10 status.  We'll have another update after Thursday's practice.  Jermaine Kearse and Paul Richardson would be Seattle's top 2 WRs if Baldwin can't play against the Giants.

Recent Shark Bites

The Seahawks on Thursday terminated the contract of WR Doug Baldwin on the grounds of a failed physical. The veteran wideout has undergone 3 surgeries since the end of the season, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports this is "likely the end of the road" for Baldwin. His departure leaves Seattle without its target leader for each of the past 5 seasons. Tyler Lockett and the rest of the crew stand to benefit in a low-volume pass offense. Rookies D.K. Metcalf and Gary Jennings gain redraft interest, and the TE competition could be worth watching this summer.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin might be forced to retire. Baldwin missed 3 games in 2018, then underwent offseason surgeries on his groin and shoulder. Now 30, Baldwin has been in the league since 2011. Seattle added some insurance in Round 2 with the selection of Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf.

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin will have sports hernia surgery in April, according to multiple reports. And that might not be all for this offseason. When asked whether this would be Baldwin's last operation of 2019, HC Pete Carroll told the Seattle Times: "I don't know that conclusively. Still working on some stuff." Baldwin's obviously a big question mark for anyone drafting best-ball teams right now. He's a risk anywhere in the single-digit rounds. Carroll said there's no timetable on Baldwin's return. We'll see whether the Seahawks address the position in the NFL Draft.

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin revealed in a radio appearance on Wednesday that he expects to have another surgery this offseason. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that Baldwin is scheduled to visit Dr. William Meyers about a potential sports hernia surgery. That'd be in addition to the knee and shoulder surgeries he had earlier this offseason. Turning 31 in September, Baldwin's body might be starting to fail him. He'll be worth monitoring closely this summer.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll revealed from the Combine on Thursday that WR Doug Baldwin recently had surgeries on his knee and shoulder. Baldwin was banged up all last season, starting with a left knee issue when he arrived at training camp, then a sprained right MCL in Week 1 and finally a hip injury in Week 13. We don't have any details yet on the knee and shoulder procedures, but Carroll said Baldwin "should be fine" for the start of the 2019 campaign. If healthy, he'll be a solid bounce-back candidate.
