The Patriots signed RB Rex Burkhead. He joins Dion Lewis and James White in the backfield. (RB LeGarrette Blount remains a free agent.) Burkhead was mostly a special-teamer in Cincinnati but flashed when given a bigger opportunity this past year, averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 8.5 yards per catch. That included a 144-total-yard, 2-TD outing against the Ravens in Week 17. At 5'10, 210 pounds, Burkhead is the biggest of New England's top 3 backs (5 pounds heavier than White). He could be a sneaky option for early-down work, although stealing significant passing-down action from White and Lewis will be tough. As usual, we'll need to keep a close eye on the Patriots' backfield this summer.
The Texans signed RB Rex Burkhead. The soon-to-be 31-year-old missed the final 6 games of last season after knee surgery and has a lengthy injury history. He remained reasonably effective last year, averaging 4.1 yards per carry and 7.7 yards per catch. But his days as a fantasy asset are likely over. That's especially true on the Texans, who look like a bad team with a crowded backfield. Houston has added Burkhead, Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram to David Johnson this offseason.
Patriots RB Rex Burkhead suffered a 3rd-quarter knee injury and was quickly ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Texans. That usually suggests a serious injury. We'll update Burkhead's status when we know more.
Patriots RB Rex Burkhead has agreed to a restructured deal. He gets a $550,000 signing bonus but drops his base salary from $2.5 million to $1.05 million, according to ESPN's Field Yates. The forgotten man in New England's backfield, Burkhead ranked 47th among RBs in total PPR points last year and finished as a top-24 RB in 4 of his 13 games. He's worth considering at the tail end of best-ball drafts.
Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (foot) is active for today’s game against the Browns. He shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups in his 1st action since Week 4 but does add a bit of downside to RBs Sony Michel and James White.
Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (foot) remained limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable again for Sunday’s game against the Browns. He hasn’t played since Week 4 and shouldn’t be in your fantasy plans. We’ll see if he’s active on Sunday.
