Gordon questionable, Ekeler out Week 15 | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Chiefs. He put in limited practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and did travel with the team to Kansas City. It looks like Gordon will be a game-time decision. We'll find out his official status around 7 pm ET tomorrow. RB Austin Ekeler (neck, concussion) is out. So if Gordon can't play, rookie Justin Jackson will serve as the Chargers' lead back.

Recent Shark Bites

The Broncos have signed RB Melvin Gordon to a 2-year, $16 million deal with $13.5 million guaranteed. He turned down a better offer from another team because he wanted to stay in the same division as the Chargers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It was still a seemingly soft market for Gordon, who now checks in as league's 8th highest paid RB in average annual salary. He's a sizable favorite for lead duties in Denver but will share at least some with Phillip Lindsay and/or Royce Freeman. Gordon won't get the same volume he did with the Chargers. Look for him to settle into RB2 territory when our rankings hit the site later this spring.

Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said Thursday that RB Melvin Gordon is "definitely part of the game plan" against the Broncos this weekend. "He may even start this game," Lynn added. That doesn't tell us a whole lot -- and we're not expecting to have a real good idea of the workload split between Gordon and Austin Ekeler on Sunday. The good news is that both guys could put up nice fantasy outings vs. a Broncos defense sitting 30th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to RBs.

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon is officially active for today’s game against the Dolphins. Reports on his role have ranged from being used only in an emergency to stepping into Justin Jackson’s role behind Austin Ekeler. We’re projecting just a handful of touches for Gordon, leaving him as a desperation fantasy play.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Chargers RB Melvin Gordon will be used in an "emergency fashion" only against the Dolphins today. "At the most, he'll get limited snaps," Rapoport adds. That's a bit more pessimistic than the Saturday reports on Gordon's role, but we've never expected him to get more than a handful of touches today. Gordon should only be used in an "emergency fashion" only in fantasy lineups.

USA Today's Mike Jones reports that Chargers RB Melvin Gordon is expected to play a "limited snap count" against the Dolphins on Sunday. Chargers insider Eric Williams believes Gordon could play a similar role to the one Justin Jackson played over the past 3 weeks. Jackson averaged 6 carries and 2.7 targets on a 30% snap rate. That's a bit more than we're projecting Gordon to play -- and even Jackson's role would make Gordon a long shot fantasy play.
