The Lions will hold QB Matt Stafford out of today's game against the Bears, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Stafford has fractured bones in his back, and it's unclear if he'll miss more time beyond Week 10. His absence leaves QB Jeff Driskel, who joined the Lions in mid-September, as today's starter. The 2016 6th-rounder made 5 starts for the Bengals last year, completing just 58.6% of his passes and averaging only 5.5 yards per attempt. He did post a 5-to-2 TD:INT ratio and ran for 81 yards. Driskel is a bottom-barrel QB2 and is a big downgrade for Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and T.J. Hockenson. Upgrade the Bears defense.
Lions GM Bob Quinn said from the Combine on Tuesday that QB Matt Stafford (back) will be a "full-go" for the start of the team's offseason program. Stafford's 2019 campaign ended in November with tiny fractures in his upper spine. He avoided surgery, although ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in late November that the injury is "potentially chronic" and "could be an issue for him for years to come." Stafford will be worth watching closely this offseason -- but he looks like a fine value at QB14 ADP in early FFPC best-ball drafts. Lamar Jackson was the only QB to average more fantasy points per game last year.
The Lions have placed QB Matt Stafford (back) on IR. It never made any sense for them to bring him back in what's become a lost season. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in November that the tiny fractures in Stafford's back are "potentially chronic" and "could be an issue for him for years to come," so his recovery will be worth monitoring closely this offseason. QB David Blough will close out this year as Detroit's starter.
The Lions have discussed shutting down QB Matt Stafford with his back injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, although the QB is still hoping to return this season. Stafford is 3 weeks removed from an injury that generally requires a 6-week recovery period. It frankly doesn't make much sense for the 3-6-1 Lions to rush him back. Schefter adds that the tiny fractures in Stafford's back are "potentially chronic" and "could be an issue for him for years to come."
Lions QB Matt Stafford (back) is out for Sunday’s game against the Redskins. Jeff Driskel gets another start after registering QB11 and QB5 finishes over the past 2 weeks. He’s a nice play in 2-QB leagues and even a spot-start option in deeper 1-QB leagues.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Lions QB Matthew Stafford has a "slim" chance to be ready for Week 12 -- but also a chance that he'll remain out until Week 17. Stafford is dealing with "tiny, non-displaced fractures in the upper thoracic spine." When he returns will depend on how long the bones take to heal, and he'll continue having weekly scans until he gets to that point. Fantasy owners need to assume that we'll be looking at Jeff Driskel for at least the next few weeks.
