Shark Bites

The Ravens on Sunday "terminated" the contract of S Earl Thomas for "personal conduct that has adversely affected" the team. Thomas got sent home this week after an in-practice fight with S Chuck Clark. There had also been recent reports of teammates being unhappy with Thomas effort, such as showing up late to meetings. Thomas remained a productive player in his 1st Baltimore season and isn't done physically at 31. Expect him to get another shot with a different team. We'll see about Baltimore's replacement plan.

Recent Shark Bites

Ravens S Earl Thomas is active for today's game against the Bengals. He turned up questionable after missing Friday's practice for personal reasons, but there's no change to his IDP outlook.

Ravens S Earl Thomas took the field last week for the 1st time since joining his new team -- and the 1st time since a broken leg ended his 2018 season last Sept. 30. "He's had a great week," HC John Harbaugh told ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "Great anticipation and great ability to cover ground. He shows up in the right spots on a regular basis. That's what great safeties do. He's done a great job." Thomas landed high in our 2019 IDP rankings.

The Ravens have reached agreement with S Earl Thomas on a 4-year, $55 million deal that includes $32 million in guarantees, according to multiple reports. Thomas' time in Seattle ended poorly, of course, but he developed into 1 of the league's top safeties before that. For IDP purposes, Thomas has primarily been nothing special. He steps into a role in which Eric Weddle finished outside the top 80 fantasy DBs last season, but Weddle cracked the top 17 each of the previous 2 campaigns. Thomas will likely sit in DB3 range when our 2019 IDP rankings come out. He'll turn 30 in May.

Seahawks S Earl Thomas left the field on a cart against the Cardinals on Sunday after suffering a left leg injury. We'll await further details.

Update: Thomas fractured his left leg and will miss the rest of the season.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports that Seahawks S Earl Thomas plans to report to the team Wednesday. Given the sparse depth at safety and Thomas' ability, we'd bet on him immediately regaining his starting job -- assuming he proves physically ready. Seattle's defense remains difficult to like, however, with Thomas returning 4 days before the season and so many other pieces gone through the offseason. We're not adjusting any Broncos passing-game pieces down on this news. For the season, of course, Thomas' presence should help the Seahawks' pass D. We'll see what the refurbished unit looks like on whole.
