Colts QB Sam Ehlinger is expected to miss 5-6 weeks with a sprained ACL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That means it'll be Jacob Eason under center for Indianapolis if Carson Wentz isn't ready for the start of the season. Eason has had an up-and-down training camp and completed 10 of 14 passes for just 74 yards in the final preseason game on Friday.
Colts rookie QB Sam Ehlinger took some 1st-team reps on Tuesday for the 1st time. "Really, that wasn’t Jacob (Eason) doing anything wrong. This is a meritocracy, and Sam's looked good, so we decided to split it up," HC Frank Reich explained. "The good news is they both looked sharp today ... we’ll continue to split those reps up." Eason remains the favorite to start for the Colts if QB Carson Wentz (foot) isn't ready for the start of the season, but he certainly doesn't have the job locked up. Of course, neither Eason nor Ehlinger is a fantasy option.
