Browns QB Robert Griffin has been placed on IR with a broken bone in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. It's possible he's designated as the team's player-to-return, but we wouldn't count on seeing RG3 again this year. QB Josh McCown takes over as Cleveland's starter and more than likely will be an upgrade. He completed 63.7% of his passes, averaged 7.2 yards per attempt and tossed 12 TDs vs. 4 INTs last year -- although that was in a different offense. McCown is especially good news for TE Gary Barnidge, who went catch-less on 2 targets in the opener.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Griffin's expected to miss the entire preseason but return for Week 1. The situation obviously has almost no fantasy impact, unless you play preseason DFS.

But it's noteworthy that Baltimore picked up RG3 while Ryan Mallett remains on the open market. Mallett backed up Flacco the past 2 seasons after arriving mid-2015. He started 2 games that year and appeared in 6 total (no starts) over the past 2 seasons. It might surprise a lot of folks that Griffin only just turned 28 in February. He obviously has plenty to prove, though, before we can consider him even a dynasty bench candidate at this point -- especially with the Ravens' lackluster pass-catching corps.

He returned for the final 4 games but totaled just 696 passing yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Since his impressive 2012 rookie campaign, Griffin has thrown 22 TDs vs. 21 INTs. He'll need to settle for a backup gig on the open market.
