Niners RB Matt Breida is expected to miss the rest of the preseason because of the shoulder injury he suffered Thursday night, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. Breida did, however, avoid structural damage to the joint. The team hopes to have him back for Week 1. In the meantime, RBs Joe Williams, Raheem Mostert and Jeremy McNichols will enjoy extra opportunities to earn offensive roles. Breida's current ADP is late enough (around RB50) that you can still take him there, barring some negative development with his shoulder. Williams is the biggest talent behind him on the depth chart and still has plenty to prove after a lost rookie year.

The 49ers listed Matt Breida as the 1st-team RB on their "unofficial" Week 1 depth chart. Insider Matt Maiocco notes that this depth chart is put together by the team's football communication's staff. RB Tevin Coleman reportedly ran ahead of Breida throughout training camp and out-snapped Breida 27 to 18 with the 1st-team offense in preseason action, so we're not sure what to make of the depth-chart listing. We'll start to get answers in Sunday's opener against the Bucs. Consider both guys upside RB3s for Week 1.

49ers RB Matt Breida avoided the PUP list to open training camp. He missed the spring with a torn pectoral, and we'll see how much he's able to do early in camp. Breida has a chance to make a move up San Francisco's depth chart while RB Jerick McKinnon continues to sit with knee trouble.

49ers RB Matt Breida has a "slightly" torn pectoral, HC Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday. Breida avoided surgery, and while he'll miss OTAs, he's expected to be ready for training camp. Despite playing on a bum ankle for most of 2018, Breida averaged a big 5.3 yards per carry last year. It'll be interesting to see what kind of role he can carve out in a 2019 backfield that added Tevin Coleman and returns Jerick McKinnon from a torn ACL. Breida is just a late-round flier in early fantasy drafts.

49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) is out for Sunday's finale against the Rams. He battled through a bum ankle for most of the season, making his 5.6 yards per carry even more impressive. Breida also averaged 9.8 yards on 22 catches. He has a shot to play a significant role in 2019, even with the return of RB Jerick McKinnon. Jeff Wilson will close out this season as San Francisco's lead back and be in the RB2 mix vs. the Rams.

49ers RB Matt Breida aggravated his ankle injury again in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Bears. He's officially questionable to return. RB Jeff Wilson will take over as long as Breida is out.

Update: Breida has been ruled out.
