The Jaguars have placed TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) on IR. He's been playing through this core-muscle injury all season but must have aggravated it in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. ASJ is reportedly a candidate to be designated for return after 8 weeks, but he's not worth hanging on to in fantasy leagues. James O'Shaughnessy and Niles Paul will handle TE duties for Jacksonville in Seferian-Jenkins' absence, but neither is a viable fantasy option right now.

The Patriots are releasing TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He’s taking a step away for a month for personal issues and the team will release him as he does that," Rapoport adds. "We’ll see if he comes back to New England or anywhere." Seferian-Jenkins has had alcohol-abuse problems in the past, although it's unclear if this is related. With TE Ben Watson suspended for the first 4 games of the season, Matt LaCosse and Stephen Anderson are currently atop the Patriots' Week 1 depth chart.

The Patriots on Wednesday signed TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins to a 1-year deal at the league minimum. The contract doesn't guarantee a thing for ASJ, but it does place him in 1 of the league's most attractive situations. Rob Gronkowski's retirement and Dwayne Allen's departure left New England returning just 5 TE receptions (by Jacob Hollister) from last year's team. Seferian-Jenkins has never played more than 13 games in an NFL season and has only once played more than 9. But he has also scored TDs on 9.5% of his 116 career catches. If he can enter the year as the position's top option for the Pats, there will be top-12 per-game fantasy upside to him. At the moment, ASJ makes for a solid mid-level TE2 option in best-ball drafts.

Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) is not listed on the final Week 1 injury report. He put in a full practice on Friday after sitting out Wednesday and being limited Thursday. ASJ should be a full-go for a plus matchup against a Giants defense that coughed up a league-high 13 TDs to TEs last year. He's firmly on the Week 1 spot-start radar.

Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) returned to a limited practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday. That gives him a shot to play in the opener. We'll get another update on ASJ tomorrow. He has a prime Week 1 matchup against the Giants.

Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins will not practice on Wednesday due to a core muscle injury, the team announced. We don't have any other details on the situation right now, but ASJ now looks iffy for this weekend's game against the Giants. We'll get another update on his status tomorrow.
