Bills RB LeSean McCoy spent spring sharing 1st-team reps with Frank Gore and rookie Devin Singletary, according to Nate Mendelson of the team website. That's not a surprising development, given the quick signing of Gore and the fairly significant draft investment in Singletary. We'll see how the work gets split in training camp. This backfield looks likely to be frustrating for fantasy owners.
Chiefs RB LeSean McCoy sustained an ankle injury late in Sunday's win over the Raiders. It's not clear yet how significant the issue is. McCoy's last touch came inside the final 3 minutes, and K.C. ran the ball just 1 more time after that. Darwin Thompson took that final handoff and would likely be the backfield leader should McCoy and Damien Williams (knee) sit in Week 3. We'll be watching this whole situation closely. Thompson looks like 1 of the week's top fantasy football waiver targets, though, even if McCoy and Williams appear on track to play against Baltimore on Sunday.
Update: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that McCoy will have an MRI Monday, adding, "At first glance, it doesn't appear to be major."
Chiefs RB LeSean McCoy is expected to play 15-20 snaps in today's opener against the Jaguars, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's about one quarter to one third of the game. McCoy figures to get just a handful of touches in his Chiefs debut and shouldn't be in Week 1 fantasy lineups.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that RB LeSean McCoy has reached a 1-year deal with the Chiefs that includes $3 million guaranteed. McCoy's arrival shouldn't threaten the season-opening role of Damien Williams, whom coaches have said will be their lead back. But he's getting nearly double the guaranteed money in the 2-year contract ($1.6 million) that Williams signed with the Chiefs in December. McCoy also muddles the outlook for rookie Darwin Thompson who had climbed into the single-digit rounds of fantasy football drafts. McCoy, of course, played his first 4 seasons under HC Andy Reid in Philadelphia before spending 2 with Chip Kelly and then the past 4 in Buffalo. McCoy is now coming off the worst production of his career, though, and can't be counted on for big numbers even in the explosive K.C. offense. We'll all be watching to see how this backfield sorts out over the next couple of weeks. McCoy and Thompson both belong in the early double-digit rounds for now. Williams remains overpriced at his ADP.
The Bills have cut RB LeSean McCoy. Although the team said all offseason that McCoy remained part of their plan, the move doesn't come as a major surprise. Shady is 31, his tank is nearing empty, and his release saves $6.4 million against the cap. We'll see where he latches on. Houston or Tampa Bay would give him a shot at a significant 2019 role. The Bills' RB depth chart is now topped by rookie Devin Singletary, Frank Gore and T.J. Yeldon. Gore out-snapped Singletary 9 to 1 with the starters in Buffalo's 3rd preseason game and might open the season as the leader in this committee. But our money is on Singletary emerging as the starter before long.
Bills RB LeSean McCoy wasn't on the field when his team began its 1st possession of Sunday's loss to the Patriots. Although he entered on the 2nd play, McCoy wound up trailing undrafted rookie "starter" Keith Ford by 1 carry (7-6) and 1 target (4-3). The veteran finished with just 19 total yards. Afterward, he said a "situation" with HC Sean McDermott led to the discipline. "Coach, we had a situation, and he was totally right," McCoy said, per ESPN.com. "It was a private situation. I'm a captain and I gotta be more accountable. Simple as that. He checked me, put me in place. That was it." The 30-year-old seems likely to be just 1 game away from at least his Buffalo career ending. McCoy remains under contract through 2019, but the final year includes a cuttable $2.625 million in dead money if he's released.
