The Bengals added LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase with the 5th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Chase opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID concerns but had nothing left to prove after a massive 2019. He set single-season SEC records with 1,780 yards and 20 TDs. And he did it as a true sophomore battling for targets with Justin Jefferson, who just set the record for receiving yards by a rookie, and Terrace Marshall, who is expected to be a 1st- or 2nd-rounder this year. Chase goes 6’0, 201 pounds but plays bigger. He’s physical through his routes, at the catch point and after the catch. And he’s excellent going deep, leading the nation with 24 catches 20+ yards downfield in 2019, per Pro Football Focus. Chase blew up his Pro Day, blazing a 4.34-second 40-yard dash and registering a huge 41-inch vertical to earn a 98th percentile Relative Athletic Score. “Chase is one of the best wide receivers in the last 10 years,” a longtime scout told The Athletic’s Bob McGinn. “He can take an underneath ball and go 80 yards. He can just run right by you and catch it 60 yards downfield. He’s built like a fullback almost, but can run like a wide receiver. He’s as good as it gets.” Chase reunites with QB Joe Burrow in Cincinnati as part of a loaded WR corps alongside Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Any of those 3 could lead the team in targets this season.
Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase delivered big for fantasy managers in Week 3 vs. the Rams, catching 12 of 15 targets for 141 yards in the victory. Teammate Tyler Boyd had a productive outing as well, hauling 5 of 9 targets for 39 yards of his own. Those who were frustrated by the lack of huge production from Chase early in the year are surely happy after this showing. WR Tee Higgins, however, hit another skid in primetime action. He drew 8 targets but was only able to record 2 catches for 21 yards on those opportunities, bringing his catch rate to 40% on the season. Hopefully, all of these players will be able to click at the same time in what should be a good matchup against the Titans in Week 4.
Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase logged 5 catches on 9 targets for 39 receiving yards in Sunday’s 24-3 loss vs. the Browns. His teammate Tee Higgins recorded zero catches on 8 targets in Week 1. HC Zac Taylor spoke optimistically following the contest, saying, “This isn’t the team that we are going to be. We all understand that,” per The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. Fantasy managers looking to get more in Week 2 vs. the Ravens sure hope so. Chase came close to double-digit PPR points, but Higgins being completely shut out is the biggest concern. We’ll hold off on getting too worried, however. QB Joe Burrow struggled to hold onto the football due to wet conditions and eventually had to wear a glove on his hand. There are assuredly brighter days ahead for the Cincinnati offense.
Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase tallied 5 catches, 61 yards and 1 score in Sunday’s win over Buffalo. That makes 5 straight games with a TD for the former LSU star. Chase scored in the 1st quarter on blown coverage. Later, he appeared to score in the back of the end zone, but upon review, refs determined that he didn’t complete the catch. Chase now hits the road to face Kansas City in the AFC Championship game.
Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase logged 7 catches on 13 targets for 60 yards, leading all Bengals receivers in those categories in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Chase also found the end zone in Week 15, in addition to teammates Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and TE Mitchell Wilcox. Both Boyd and Higgins wound up with 5 catches apiece. While no one besides Chase cracked the 50-yard mark (Boyd with 35 yards, Higgins with 33), fantasy managers who rolled out these Bengals WRs had their days saved by TDs. Next week brings a tough matchup against the Patriots, who rank 7th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to WRs. Still consider Chase a top-5 option, but Higgins is more of a low-end WR2, and Boyd a flex candidate in Week 16.
Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase had an understandably busy day in Sunday's win over the Browns, with Tyler Boyd leaving early and Tee Higgins limited by an injury he suffered in pregame warmups. Chase claimed 45.5% of Bengals targets (15), 55.6% of receptions (10) and 49.8% of receiving yards (119). Chase also snagged 1 of QB Joe Burrow's 2 TD throws. The other went to WR Trenton Irwin, on a 45-yard flea flicker. Cincinnati visits the Buccaneers in Week 15.
