Colts S Khari Willis left Sunday's OT loss at Tennessee with a calf injury. Indianapolis plays the Jets on Thursday night, which will challenge Willis' ability to make it back in time for Week 9. Andrew Sendejo replaced him against the Titans and would likely start in Willis' place if he can't go Thursday.
Colts S Khari Willis announced his retirement Wednesday after just 3 years in the league. Willis said he plans "to devote the remainder of my life to the further advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ." His retirement leaves an opening in Indy's starting lineup, with Rodney McLeod, rookie Nick Cross and Julian Blackmon looking like the primary competitors. Cross -- a 3rd-round pick out of Maryland -- looks most interesting from an IDP standpoint. He tested great at the Combine -- 98th-percentile 40, 92nd-percentile broad jump, 71st-percentile vertical -- at 6'0, 212 pounds. NFL.com's Lance Zierlein called him "the bouncer of the Maryland defense," lauding his "aggression and explosiveness." Zierlein also highlighted Cross' tackling ability near the line of scrimmage and in the open field, which sounds good for his tackle-collection potential in the pros.
The Colts have activated S Khari Willis off IR. He's expected to play Sunday against the Texans after missing the past 4 games with a calf injury.
The Colts on Wednesday designated S Khari Willis to return from IR. He missed the past 4 games with a calf injury but appears on track to return for Sunday's game against the Texans. Willis' return would shove S George Odum out of the starting lineup.
The Colts on Thursday placed S Khari Willis on IR. He left Week 8 with a calf injury that will keep him out for at least the next 3 games. We'll see how soon he's ready to return beyond that. That means S George Odum will start in place of Willis next to Andrew Sendejo, who moved into the lineup when Julian Blackmon suffered an Achilles' tendon tear.
Colts S Khari Willis is active for tonight's game against the Ravens.
