Lions add Asiata | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

The Lions have signed RB Matt Asiata. A fantasy undertaker in Minnesota, Asiata vultured 19 total TDs over the past 4 seasons -- despite averaging just 3.5 yards per carry. He joins Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington in Detroit's backfield. Those final 2 and Asiata might be battling for 1 or 2 roster spots. We hope Asiata doesn't turn into a fantasy factor again.

Vikings RB Matt Asiata (ankle, illness) will play against the Colts today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Will work into three-RB rotation," Schefter adds. We'd bet on Jerick McKinnon and Adrian Peterson seeing more action that Asiata. He shouldn't be in fantasy lineups.

Vikings RB Matt Asiata was added to Friday’s injury report with an ankle issue. He’s also dealing with an illness, according to the Vikings’ official site. Asiata didn’t practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Colts. His absence would be a big boost to RB Jerick McKinnon.

The Vikings list RB Matt Asiata as their starter for today's game against the Panthers. It doesn't mean much but does confirm that Asiata will play a significant role. We're still betting on Jerick McKinnon leading the backfield in touches, but he's a lower-end RB2 with Asiata stealing work. Asiata is a TD-dependent RB3 or flex.

Vikings RB Matt Asiata signed a 1-year deal Monday to avoid restricted free agency. The small new contract indicates that he wouldn't have drawn much interest from other suitors. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that he chose an "incentive-laced" deal over the $1.54 million RFA tender. Minnesota will be better off if Asiata plays a smaller role in 2015.

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer said Monday that he'd like to spread the carries around his backfield going forward, with RB Jerick McKinnon done for the season. Specifically, he apparently didn't like seeing RB Matt Asiata run the ball 19 times in Sunday's win over the Jets. “I think Matt probably had a few too many carries,” Zimmer said, per the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “We’d like to get Ben (Tate) a few more carries this week as well, and so we’ll see." We will see just how much Tate and Joe Banyard get the ball. But the sheer stated desire from the head coach that his limited lead back get the ball even less should have you even more wary of staring Asiata in Week 15. Fortunately, that brings a trip to Detroit, where you should be trying not to start Asiata anyway.
