Titans Give Robert Saleh Another Shot

The Titans have chosen 49ers DC Robert Saleh to become the next head coach, according to multiple reports. Saleh's 2025 in San Francisco followed 3+ seasons as the head man for the Jets. He went 20-36 over that span, topping out at 7-10 in both 2022 and 2023. New York dumped him after five games in 2024. Before that, Saleh coordinated the San Francisco defense for another four years, beginning with Kyle Shanahan's first year at the helm (2017).

Dolphins Rolling with Jeff Hafley as New HC

        10:04pm UTC 1/19/26

Miami has chosen Jeff Hafley to be the next head coach, according to multiple reports. Hafley spent the past two years as Green Bay's defensive coordinator after four as Boston College HC. His previous NFL experience included:

        • three years as 49ers DBs coach (one under Chip Kelly, two under Kyle Shanahan)
        • two years as Browns CBs coach (both under Mike Pettine)
        • and two coaching DBs in Tampa (both under Greg Schiano)

Chiefs Get New/Old OC in Eric Bienemy

        9:35pm UTC 1/19/26

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, "All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator." Matt Nagy served as OC in 2025 and the previous two years, his second stint with the team. His contract runs out at the end of this NFL season, and K.C.'s reportedly expecting Nagy to land a head-coaching gig somewhere in this cycle. Bieniemy actually took over as Chiefs OC the last time Nagy left (for the Chicago head job in 2018) and stayed in that role through 2022.

Drew Petzing Takes Over As Lions OC

        8:44pm UTC 1/19/26

The Lions are hiring Drew Petzing as their new OC, according to multiple reports. ESPN's Eric Woodyard writes that Petzing is expected to call plays, after HC Dan Campbell took over those duties during the second half of 2025. Petzing spent the past three seasons as Cardinals OC. Arizona's offenses were middling under Petzing, ranking 19th, 11th, and 19th in total yards and 24th, 12th, and 23rd in points. But he piloted productive and efficient running games in 2023 and 2024, with the Cardinals ranking top seven in both rushing yards and yards per carry both years. Arizona sunk to 31st in yards this past year but still ranked 16th in yards per carry. QB Kyler Murray played a big part in those rushing attacks. But Cardinals RBs averaged 4.7 yards per carry in Petzing's scheme. Consider this hire good news for RB Jahmyr Gibbs.

J.K. Dobbins Back For The AFC Championship?

        8:41pm UTC 1/19/26

The Broncos are designating RB J.K. Dobbins to return from IR, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Dobbins will practice this week and "has a chance" to play vs. the Patriots in Sunday's AFC Championship, per Schefter. Dobbins has been sidelined since suffering a foot injury in Week 10 that required surgery. We'll keep an eye on his status throughout the week. We'd be surprised if he played a big role in his first action since early November, but his presence would certainly add downside to RB R.J. Harvey's fantasy profile.

The Bills have fired HC Sean McDermott, according to multiple reports. McDermott spent nine seasons at the helm in Buffalo, 98-50 in the regular season with just one non-winning campaign: 6-10 back in 2018, his second year. Each of his other eight Bills teams reached the playoffs. Five straight won the AFC East before this year's club finished second behind the Patriots. McDermott's Bills went 8-8 in the playoffs, winning at least one game each of the past six seasons.

Falcons Land Kevin Stefanski As HC

        7:03pm UTC 1/18/26

The Falcons are hiring Kevin Stefanski as their new HC. He's expected to retain DC Jeff Ulbrich and bring Tommy Rees with him from Cleveland to serve as OC, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Stefanski spent the past six seasons as Browns HC, compiling a 45-56 record. He went 37-30 with two playoff appearances over the first four years, the first of two coming with QB Baker Mayfield. Stefanski was in Minnesota for 14 seasons prior to Cleveland, serving as OC in his final year there. That 2019 Vikings team was quarterbacked by Kirk Cousins, who remains signed with the Falcons as of now. QB Michael Penix is also on the roster but is working back from ACL surgery that's expected to sideline him into August. QB is the big question for Atlanta heading into 2026. But Stefanski will be armed with a sturdy offensive line and a pair of high-end skill players in RB Bijan Robinson and WR Drake London.

Zach Charbonnet's Knee Injury Not Serious

        6:48pm UTC 1/18/26

Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet injured his left knee in the second quarter of Saturday night's win over the 49ers and did not return. He was back on the sidelines riding a stationary bike in the second half, though. And HC Mike Macdonald said afterward that the knee is "okay structurally." That doesn't necessarily mean that Charbonnet will be available for next weekend's NFC Championship game, but it at least sounds like he dodged anything that would impact his 2026 season. We should learn more about Charbonnet early this coming week.

Bo Nix To Miss Rest Of Playoffs With Broken Ankle

        2:17am UTC 1/18/26

Broncos QB Bo Nix needs surgery for a broken ankle suffered in Saturday's win over the Bills and will miss the rest of the playoffs, HC Sean Payton announced. It's unclear when Nix suffered the injury, as he didn't miss a single snap vs. Buffalo. We'll look for more info on Nix's injury and timeline for return, but it's unlikely to impact his 2026 season. It's obviously a brutal blow to the Broncos' playoff hopes, though. They'll turn to QB Jarrett Stidham in next Sunday's AFC Championship vs. the Patriots or Texans. Stidham has not thrown a regular-season pass since 2023. He started the final two games of the season for Denver that year, completing 60.6% of his passes at 7.4 yards per attempt with two TDs vs. one INT.

Update: Nix fractured a bone in his right ankle on the second-to-last play of overtime and will have surgery on Tuesday, Payton said.

        2:07am UTC 1/18/26

Broncos WR Pat Bryant sustained a concussion on the first possession of Saturday's win over the Bills. The rookie was busy before exiting, catching all three of his targets for 32 yards on Denver's first four offensive snaps. He'll have an extra day to get cleared for next Sunday's AFC Championship, but Bryant won't be helped by the fact that this is his second concussion in the past month. He was hospitalized and eventually diagnosed with a concussion in Week 16. WR Marvin Mims stepped up sans Bryant in the win over Buffalo, catching eight balls for 93 yards and a score. WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught two of five targets for 33 yards and a score. WR Troy Franklin did not see a target.
