The Athletic's Matt Barrows expects RB Tevin Coleman to remain the 49ers starter this season. "[HC] Kyle Shanahan and [RBs coach] Bobby Turner liked starting games with Coleman because he’s a little bigger and more physical runner than the others," Barrows writes. "So my guess is that the arrangement will be the same as last season: Coleman starts, with Turner then using his feel for who’s hot that day dictating the snap loads for the rest of the game." Who gets the 1st snap in San Francisco's backfield is hardly relevant. But the takeaway here is that this remains a committee attack with Coleman, Raheem Mostert and potentially Jerick McKinnon. We're shying away from Mostert at his RB26 ADP. Coleman is a better value at RB38.
49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) "isn't likely" to return for this weekend's game against the Patriots, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. San Francisco will also be without RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) for that one, while RB Jeff Wilson (calf) is uncertain. That leaves Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty as the team's healthy RBs.
The 49ers have placed RB Tevin Coleman on IR for his knee injury. We’d bet on it being a short-term stay, but the move sidelines Coleman for at least the next 3 games. San Francisco promoted undrafted rookie RB Ja’Mycal Hasty from the practice squad to fill his roster spot. Hasty averaged 5.2 yards per carry career at Baylor and caught 76 passes over his final 3 seasons there. He’s worth keeping an eye on in case of another 49ers RB injury — and a potential dynasty stash
49ers RB Tevin Coleman is expected to miss "about 4 weeks" with his sprained knee, HC Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday. Coleman wasn't doing much before going down and is droppable in standard-sized fantasy leagues. With RB Raheem Mostert (knee) also expected to miss Week 3, it'll be Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson in the backfield vs. the Giants.
The 49ers expect RB Tevin Coleman to miss "multiple weeks" with the knee injury he suffered late in Sunday's win over the Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That leaves San Francisco expecting to miss its top 2 RBs for Sunday's visit to the Giants. Jeff Wilson and Jerick McKinnon will lead the backfield work and are both worth pursuing -- at appropriate levels -- on waiver wires this week.
Niners HC Kyle Shanahan said RB Tevin Coleman also left Sunday's win over the Jets with a knee injury, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Coleman's last touch came in the 2nd half of the 4th quarter. The 49ers had 1 more possession and ran Jeff Wilson. We haven't seen anything else about Coleman's injury. We'll see what the next few days reveal. Wilson and Jerick McKinnon would obviously gain big touch upside if both Coleman and Raheem Mostert miss Week 3.
Update: Shanahan confirmed this injury in his Monday press conference and says they're awaiting MRI results.
